Year: 2019
Tools: Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator

I was asked by ELSI (Earth-Life Science Institute) researchers to design a cover image for the peer-reviewed scientific journal ACS Synthetic Biology. It was a competition and this sadly didn't make the cut, but it was still fun to create!

The background was created with Photoshop, the GFP, PPK, ribosome, tRNA, etc. (purple and yellow clusters) were images sent to me by the researchers. Everything else I made with Illustrator.
I decided the background looked a little too busy, so I changed it. The researchers also asked me to make the GFP (green fluorescent protein) green and to see what it might look like with some mRNA attached to the cogs.
They felt the mRNA was not necessary in the end, but were happy with the results. The last thing to do was to add two large green spheres representing amino acids.
